Question
For the last 4 weeks I am experiencing echo of external sounds in my left ear.  There is a kind of reverberation when either I talk or someone else talks. This echo sound interfere with normal sound & worse is sometime i could not differentiate what has been said clearly. It is like listening through a broken speaker.
I had seen two ENT's, one prescribed some throat infection medicine, which didn't helped. Other ENT, is suspecting it to be something related with Chochlea. What could be the problem? Is this state of mine recoverable.....

Answer
Hi Nikhil,
Have you had an audiological evaluation?  Without a thorough evaluation which would include an evaluation of the middle ear as well, there is no way to tell if your problems stem from the cochlea (inner ear) or a dysfunction of the Eustachian Tube.  Disorders of the Eustachian Tube, a small tube that runs from the middle ear to the nose responsible for maintaining proper pressure, often have the symptoms you describe.

Depending upon the type of loss you have - middle ear or inner ear - will determine treatment and chances of recovery.

Hope this helps.
