Audiology/Otolaryngology/vertigo and swooshing sound in the ear

Question
Hi,
My husband has been complaining about a regular swooshing sound in one
ear. It has been going for a few years. On occasion he experiences vertigo
associated with nausea and vomiting. The vertigo comes and goes for a
couple of weeks. We have seen a ENT and a nuerologist. He has had MRI's and
various other tests and no answers as to what is going on?

Answer
Hi Marisa,
You do not mention which tests he has had.  Has he been tested for Meniere's Disease?  Has he had a VNG?  What brings on the vertigo?  Has he consulted a cardiologist?  Is your husband on medications?  Has he ever had a head injury?  How old is he? Given the little information that I have, your husband's symptoms can be due to any number of things.  Has the MRI ruled out a tumor and Multiple Sclerosis?

At this time, the only thing I can recommend is that he consult either an otoneurologist and/or a cardiologist for another thorough workup.

Hope this helps.
