Question
Hi I am 43 yrs old I had Lt ear hearing loss when I was 12 yrs old, it happened after I was treated with some medication for some acute illness I don't know the name of medication, I have continuous tinnitus from that time, it happened in Pakistan, I checked with ENT Specialist here in USA about 10 yrs ago and they say there is no treatment, Is there any new development which would help me, I don't want to go to Dr and waste my money if there is no hope. Thanks

Answer
Hi Shama,
I'm not quite sure what type of help you want.  If you are looking for restoring your hearing to normal, if the nerves in the ear are damaged, most likely you will not be able to do that. If you are looking for a hearing aid that can help you hear from that ear, you would need to consult an audiologist and have a complete audiological evaluation.  If you are looking for treatment for the tinnitus, there are many new developments over the years that can help.  I will refer you to this site: www.ata.org, which is the site of the American Tinnitus Association.  I suggest you find a tinnitus specialist near you and consult with him/her on your options.  There is always hope.

Hope this helps.
