Auditing/state and irs audit

Question
Does the state and irs compare information on an audit? Sent state documentation and now IRS is auditing.   Do you think IRS has documents I sent to state?

Answer
I can give you my experience, but I don't have absolute knowledge.  In general, my experience is no, the IRS doesn't have the documents you sent the state.  The state and the IRS work from two very different data bases; there is some sharing of information, but mostly on your balance due.  If you want the IRS to have the same information you gave the state - you'll have to send it to them.
