I was wondering what the average summer humidity and temperature in Brisbane compares to the same in Atlanta. It gets pretty hot here in Queensland, but it seems to me that the heat is more oppressive in Atlanta in July and August.

The humidity in Queensland during the summer is bad, but I found it very similar to the humidity of Chicago.  The difference is that while the worst of the humidity in Chicago lasts for only 2 or so weeks, in Queensland it lasts the entire summer.  I've been told by friends, its very similar to that of a Houston summer, which I'd assume would be similar to Atlanta.
