Australia/Moving to Brisbane in November
Expert: Frank Denison - 4/1/2008
QuestionHey Frank
Your profile is irresistible for me to not to ask you about Brisbane. I am from India, working in Kuwait for the last 11 years in advertising. My wife's a Dentist but unfortunately is not working at the moment, which is one of the reasons why we are moving to Brisbane this November. We are already permanent residents since last July & I bought a piece of land in a new estate in Drewvale this year. I am looking for a couple of answers:
1) Since Kuwait is very dry throughout the year, will Brisbane humidity be difficult to adjust for some time?
2) Since I have to check out work places at CBD, will commuting daily be stressful everyday from Drewvale?
3) Are there community services in the Dental field that my wife can start volunteering before she can check out answering Australian Dental Council exams?
4) Are the private Catholic schools (Like St. Bernardine's) good enough for my son who's turning six next year or do I need to check the Government schools?
Thanks
Merwyn
AnswerG'day Merwyn,
Questions to your answer.
1. Humidity during summer in Brisbane is very high. It takes a bit to get use to. I just tell people to get air conditioning in their homes. At least that way you can sleep at night.
2.Drewvale is about 20km from the city and would take at least 30 minutes to get to the city. It may take more depending if you drive or catch a bus or train.
3. The Queensland government website may help .
http://www.qld.gov.au/services_for_queenslanders/health_and_communities/
4. St Bernadine's is a good school. The fees are getting very expensive though. Depends what you want for your son. There are some very good government schools as well.
I hope this helps.
Regards,
Frank
