Question
g'day Ian
I live in the bush about 50km east of Tenterfield in northern nsw.  What are your thoughts on which would be the best way to go to Uluru?  As it isn't possible to drive directly west from here what are the advantages/disadvantages of going via either Mt. Isa or Adelaide, and the distance involved?  Any tips re the best way to see Uluru and the surrounding sites?  Thanks for your help mate
Darryl

Answer
Mmmm, Tenterfield, nice town, even though you live east of it near the ranges where I have spent many a pleasant hour.
Personally speaking, I would travel south.  The reason being that there are things I would like to see on the way - such as Broken Hill, Adelaide itself including Adelaide hills, Barossa Valley, Flinders Range, Mount Remarkable National Park.  You can also get some great fishing charters out of Whyalla if you want to dip down that far.
It really depends on the type of thing you want to see though; my choices may not be yours.
The distance involved is unknown to me as I've never been to Uluru but there are many relatively inexpensive road atlas available plus you can try Google maps.  The internet is a boon for maps.
If you want to see more details on what I've just suggested, you might want to look into virtualtourist.com.  I have a site there under iandsmith with information but there'll also be lots of others with things that might interest you.
If I can be of any more help, please do not hesitate to contact me further.
