Question
I have an Aussie Luv in Brisbane. Im planning a trip to meet him in a couple of months. IF things goes as planned & Im happy there...would I fit in? Would coulture shock hit me? What would I need to do in order for me to stay there permanently?

Answer
Hello -

Culture shock happens when you first arrive, and also happens when you return home, as you've become adjusted to the new culture you're experiencing.

I honestly can't answer if you'd fit in, as I don't know anything really about you.  Brisbane is a great city and I loved every moment I spent there, but it did take me a little bit of time (not that long really) to just get used to the ways things work.

As far as staying there permanently, that is far more complicated to answer.  As far as I know, you must be able to prove that you've been in a commited relationship for quite some time.  I know of one person who was interviewed several times over her sister's relationship with a non Australian.  I also know of one person who was living in Australia on a temporary partner visa, and one thing led to another and was no longer with her partner.  When the DIMIA discovered this, she was given one month to apply for and get a new visa, though she did have to leave the country during this process.

I strongly advise you to contact a Migration Agent / Lawyer if you plan on applying for permanent residency.
