Question
QUESTION: my family might move to Brisbane from Melbourne.

we live outside Melbourne in a suburb about 40 minutes away, near the freeway, and close to all amenities and shops. we love to find a place similar in Brisbane.

can you please suggest a suburb similar to the one we are living in now with the average rental of a 3 bedroom house  about 230-250 per week. how is the employment for fridgies in Brisbane?

thanks,
mel

ANSWER: Hi Mel,
Sorry for the delayed reply, but I only received the question today.

The suburbs 40 mins away from the city are Strathpine, Lawnton, Bray Park, Petrie, Kallangur, Sandgate, Strathpine, Shorncliffe.

I doubt you would get a rental property for the price you mention. The rent is pretty high in Brisbane and you are probably looking at $350 a week.

I gather you mean refrigeration mechanics?. Brisbane has a lot of construction at the moment, and I would think there would be plenty of work at the moment available.

QUESTION: hi Frank,

thanks for responding to my query. Can you please tell me about Rothwell. Is it too far from the city, how long does it take to travel. Which suburbs are flood prone?

Thanks for your help.

Cheers,
Mel

Answer
Hi Mel
The suburb of Rothwell is getting closer to 50 minutes from the city. Your only option besides driving is to catch the bus as there are no trains in that area. You can drive to a station about 15 minutes and get a train.

I have not heard of Rothwell ever been flooded.

Frank

Expertise

I have lived in Brisbane all my life (53 years). I am very proud of our city and the Sunshine State of Queensland. I am happy to help in any way possible. Queensland is a very humid and hot place in Summer, which makes it great for outdoor fun.

Experience

I have a great love and knowledge of Brisbane and the surrounding areas. I holiday on the Sunshine Coast every year, and visit the Gold Coast numerous times during the year for work. We love to dine out, and can recommend many places to try in Brisbane and the Coasts.
