About Megan Expertise I can answer general questions on Australia (places to go, how to get around) I have lived in Canberra, Melbourne and Brisbane so have extensive knowledge on those and surrounding areas. Sorry about the delay in response I don't know if you have seen that there have been massive floods here in Queensland. Anwyays everything startign to dry everything out now!
I have had a look at coach travel from Darwin to Cairns and it seems mostly to be more tour orientated than something that is just a direct travel. Would this be something your interested in. Greyhound which is Australia's best bus service does do the route although I looked up over some days and it doesn't seem to run very often so depending how flexable you are with dates and when you are going this may be a problem.
There is also the option to fly. You can try either Qantas (about $288) for a direct flight or if you want to go via Brisbane you can fly with Virgin Blue (about $360).
