AboutFrank Denison Expertise I have lived in Brisbane all my life (51 years). I am very proud of our city and the Sunshine State of Queensland. I am happy to help in any way possible. Queensland is a very humid and hot place in Summer, which makes it great for outdoor fun.
Experience I have a great love and knowledge of Brisbane and the surrounding areas. I holiday on the Sunshine Coast every year, and visit the Gold Coast numerous times during the year for work. We love to dine out, and can recommend many places to try in Brisbane and the Coasts.
Question Hi Frank, My family of me and my husband and two boys 17 & 14 are visiting my brother, wife and 14 year old son in Sydney in Dec 09 we are then travelling by car or train?? to Brisbane to have Christmas with my other brother wife and two girls. Can you recommend any places to visit on the way, the best places to stay over and other information you can would be greatly appreciated. We were originally going to fly but thought this may be a move interesting way to do it while seeing a bit more of Aussie! Also we will be in Brisbane city for a few days prior to flying to Sydney as my niece is in a swimming gala, so any info on places to see etc for here would be good too. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Many thanks in advance

My wife and I have done the Brisbane - Sydney trips many times. Some of the places we have enjoyed staying at are - Coff Harbour, Port Mcquarie, Foster, Byron Bay and of course the Gold Coast. Coffs Harbour has a pet Porpise Pool where you can up close and personal with dolphins and porpises. It was a great hit with our kids.

It has good beaches and a lot of other attractions. We stayed at the Opal Cove resort which was perfect. The resort comprises 36 hectares of natural beauty with it's own 9 hole par 3 golf course, 4 flood lit tennis courts, swimming pool, and freshwater lagoon. It has activities for the kids and rooms for families. You can also buy a BBQ pack for the family and cook your own food on the free bbq's.

Try going to www.wotif.com It has accomodation for anywhere you need to stay in Australia.
Byron Bay is a small town, with beautiful beaches and slightly alternative lifestyle. Port Mcquarie also has good beaches a winery and lots of options for accomodation. Gold Coast has the best beaches and the water will be warmer than the other places I have mentioned. It has endless tourist options including the them parks Dreamworld, Seaworld and Movieworld. The boys will love all 3. Foster is close to Sydney. It is a small town on the beach, with a laid back attitude, but very beautiful.
Brisbane will be quite hot and humid at Christmas time. Some attarctions to suit the family are - South Bank, Science Centre, Mueseum, Botanic Gardens, Gallery of Modern Art(GOMA)Kangaroo Point Cliff adventure activities (absailing and canoes), Story Bridge climb, Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, Australia Zoo (1 hour north of Brisbane. Try jumping on a city cat ferry and see Brisbane from the river. There are many more but with only a couple of days, you will not have time to do them all.
Another option is called brisbane Five in One. All in one price for five attractions of Brisbane. -
