About Frank Denison
Expertise
I have lived in Brisbane all my life (51 years). I am very proud of our city and the Sunshine State of Queensland. I am happy to help in any way possible. Queensland is a very humid and hot place in Summer, which makes it great for outdoor fun.

Experience
I have a great love and knowledge of Brisbane and the surrounding areas. I holiday on the Sunshine Coast every year, and visit the Gold Coast numerous times during the year for work. We love to dine out, and can recommend many places to try in Brisbane and the Coasts.

Australia - Self-Drive Trip to Mount Tamborine

Expert: Frank Denison - 9/30/2009

Question
My family and I (2 adults and 1 child) will be visiting Gold Coast,Australia in Nov09, and we plan to take a half-day self-drive trip to Mount Tamborine from Broadbeach.

Our main interest is to take a tour of your famous wineries, mainly to
i) receive any form of explaination on the wine making process
ii) tour the vineyard
iii) taste the wine

Our itinerary is below:
1) Visit Gallery Walk shops
2) Visit a vineyard and a winery
3) Visit Glow Worm Cave
4) Lunch
5) Visit Cedar Creek Falls

My enquiries are:
a) Can you recommend any vineyard or winery that can give explaination on wine making process and allow a visit to vineyard ? If yes, what is the charge/ any time schedule ?
b) With our itinerary above, how many hours do you think it will take ?
c) How can i get information on the list of special shops in Gallery Walk and its exact location/address/map ?
d) Do you have any other items to recommend to our itinerary which will be suitable/interesting to a child ?

Answer
G'day Ann,
The only Winery I have been to in Mount Tambourine is Heritage Winery.
This winery has some good wines with the Cab Sav getting a 91/100 rating from James Halliday. It also has a small gallery there. If you were there midweek, I am sure they would make time to show you the vineyard and explain the wine making process. Weekend would be too busy, so avoid that time if you can. When you arrive at Broadbeach, ring ahead and ask if a certian day is better than others. Some days they may have a bus tour.  I have not eaten at their restaurant, but you could incorporate the wine tour and lunch all at one place. They should not charge you for the tour.

There is a great little coffee shop that has fresh and tasty food and excellent coffee. If you didnt want to go to the winery restaurant, it would be a perfect place for lunch.

I have never visited the Glow Worm Cave, but 2 links are attached with all the information. The Glow Worm Cave is in part of Cedar Creek Falls so you can take care of items 3 & 5 at the same time.

You have listed a very full day. it will take at least 30 mins tto get there from Broadbeach. Including travel both ways, I would allow 8 hours for all the things you want to do.

Link below should give you all the info for the Gallery Walk.

Your question about other items to recommend to our itinerary which will be suitable/interesting to a child is difficult because you do not mention an age. The Glow Worm Cave should cover most ages. Movieworld is a bit touristy, but it would suit children of all ages.

Enjoy your holiday and if you need any more information contact me anytime.

Regards,
Frank
