Question
QUESTION: I would like to apply for a trade skills visa asap but I understand you must have been working within this trade for 12 months prior to application. Is this policy strict? how do I prove this, I can obtain references but not wage/pay slips. Are there any circumstances in which application can be made without wage slips? I qualified 8yrs ago and have always kept my hand in the trade (friends/family/mobile hairdressing) but been in full time employment in other jobs not on the SOL. ANy advice will be gratefully received.

ANSWER: Hi Katya,
I have read the immigration website for Australia.
( http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/sol/#b ) Hairdressing is in the General Skilled Migration Skilled Occupation Lists.

I am not sure how strict they are with proof. Check the link below for detailed information. http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/booklets/booklets.htm

You should be able to determine if you are eligible from thosae links.

Frank

QUESTION: If I go on a student visa (an advanced hair course) does the course have to last 2yrs? Or can I choose one that lasts for 1 semester/6months? If I choose to do this, can my long term partner come on my visa as he would on a skilled migration visa? Would he only be able to work 20 hrs per week the same as me?

Answer
Hi Katya,

Regarding your partner, he can come with you. Check this link for exact details.  http://www.immi.gov.au/students/students/bringing_family/

There are certian conditions that must be met when working. I think you will be able to work 20 hours. Check this link.  http://www.immi.gov.au/students/students/working_while_studying/conditions.htm

To decide what course you can do,and how long you have to do, depends where you are from.
Go to the link below and go through the options.

Good luck.

I have lived in Brisbane all my life (53 years). I am very proud of our city and the Sunshine State of Queensland. I am happy to help in any way possible. Queensland is a very humid and hot place in Summer, which makes it great for outdoor fun.

Experience

I have a great love and knowledge of Brisbane and the surrounding areas. I holiday on the Sunshine Coast every year, and visit the Gold Coast numerous times during the year for work. We love to dine out, and can recommend many places to try in Brisbane and the Coasts.
