Question
Hi Frank, worked in Aus 30 years ago as a mining accountant in WA but now 61. How difficult is the job market for people my age? Any comments would be most welcome. I've still got all my marbles; I'm healthy and regularly play touch rugby.
Kind regards
Steve

Answer
Hi Steve,
I must apologise for my late reply. I had a very large spam email sent to me and my ISP closed my account for a while.

One thing I know you can't beat is experience, and I know you would have that.

I feel there is always a reluctance to employ people over 55. I know it should not happen, but it does. However, a friend of mine lost his job at 55. He eventually got a job after a few months, and the company loves him. He never misses time he is always ready to start, and cause no problems.

I am sure you know your strengths, so concentrate on those in the interview. I am sure you will do well.

There are plenty of jobs in the market, just depends on what companies are looking for.

Good luck, and let me know what happens.

Regards,
Frank

Expertise

I have lived in Brisbane all my life (53 years). I am very proud of our city and the Sunshine State of Queensland. I am happy to help in any way possible. Queensland is a very humid and hot place in Summer, which makes it great for outdoor fun.

Experience

I have a great love and knowledge of Brisbane and the surrounding areas. I holiday on the Sunshine Coast every year, and visit the Gold Coast numerous times during the year for work. We love to dine out, and can recommend many places to try in Brisbane and the Coasts.
