Expert: Frank Denison - 3/31/2007
QuestionHi
We live in uk and are thinking of a move to Brisbane. There are a few things that we want to know.
I am a nurse,my husband is a detective, where are the best places to apply to?We both drive but would want to work in 20 km distance
We have children, girl age 18,likes socialising, fashion. Her boyfriend will be with us he is keen on soccer and plays in local team(,amateur)
Son age 14 loves sport, fantastic rugby league player.
Son age 10 wants friends to play with
Schools-Son age 14 has attention deficit disorder,he is very intelligent, will thrive better in caring atmosphere. He has had problems at one school and we took him out.Mainstream school we are looking for.
Area to live-We live in "middle class "area in uk,want friendly area where children have friends to play with nearby, things going on in area.Friendly, community area, socialise
Obviously due to husbands job, want to live in area away from where working!
Thanks
Donna
AnswerG'day Donna,
I am sorry for the late reply, but we have been away for the weekend.
If you do move to Brisbane, I am sure you will enjoy this part of the world.
The 20 km distance may restrict you with some of the things you would like. To have a better chance of finding an area with children you may have to head up to 40 km out of the city. The areas of Aspley, Albany Creek, Carseldine, Bridgeman Downs are about 20 Km out of town, and would be ideal, but no guarantee of children around the ages of your children.
I live on the Northside, and would only recommend that side of town, as I do not have a good knowledge of the Southside.
Some Internet sites that may help are

The department of Immigration site may also be of assistance.

To buy a house in a decent area would cost between $350,000 and $500,000. To rent would vary on areas, but it would be between $300 and $400 a week. The link below will give you an idea of prices.
