Question
Hello Mick, myself and 3 friends are flying to Aus from UK to see the Motorcyle Grand Prix at Phillip Island. Could you please tell me how far Phillip Is. is from Melbourne, is accesable by public transport / taxi, or is it worth considering hiring a car? Also what type of weather / temps are we likely to encounter? I have been told it can get quite cold at that time of the year! Cheers, Dave Mott

Answer
Dave:
You can get to Phillip Island by public transport and there are several tour companies that make daily trips.  Because it is going to be crowded, I would suggest renting a car so you can come and go at your own schedule and perhaps stay to see the fairy penguins and the information center.  It is also fun to drive out toward the Great Ocean Road and visit some of the small surfer towns.  Also, don't miss the Queen Victoria Market.
Temperatures are likely to be in the 40's at night and mid to high 50's during the day. (F)
