Question
Cheers Cobber!
I am moving to Brisbane to be with my partner in 2005.   He is a Kiwi bloke that has just obtained his Australian Citizenship.   I am a US citezen and have never been to Australia yet.  I am finishing a 4 year degree in the US and would like to persue work in Brisbane.   There is so much infromation on work visa's etc.   Is there ANY advice you could give me on obtaining legal  gainful employment in Qld?   I have a slight fear I will be a dependent and would much rather be able to contribute equally...any advice would be helpful.   Thanks!
Mickey

Answer
G'day Mickey,
I hope you enjoy your stay when you get here. It is one of the harder questions I have been asked since I became a volunteer for ask the experts.

I have no idea about work Visa's for Australia. I will try to find out something this week and email you again. There is a job finding site on the internet which my wife has used and it is very helpful. You have to register (free) and then you select the type of job you are after and they email you the jobs automatically.

It's called -  http://www.seek.com.au/
I know it had a section in there "Not an Australian Citizen ", then click here, so that may be helpful.

I am sure you wont have any trouble finding a job here in Brisbane though.

I am sorry I cant be more helpful, but I will try to find out more info for you and send another reply. I am sure you will get a lot from that website though.

Regards,
Frank

Expertise

I have lived in Brisbane all my life (53 years). I am very proud of our city and the Sunshine State of Queensland. I am happy to help in any way possible. Queensland is a very humid and hot place in Summer, which makes it great for outdoor fun.

Experience

I have a great love and knowledge of Brisbane and the surrounding areas. I holiday on the Sunshine Coast every year, and visit the Gold Coast numerous times during the year for work. We love to dine out, and can recommend many places to try in Brisbane and the Coasts.
