Australia/move to australia?
Expert: Frank Denison - 9/28/2006
QuestionHi, my boyfriend and I are talking about moving to Australia. He is a little older than I and I am still in college. Do you have any knowledge about how difficult it would be for me to move there and get registered in a college? I am interested in art. Know of any good colleges, Im in a community college right now but will soon be in a university. Do you know anything about Visa's and all that? My boyfriend is a certified firefighter here but is currently doing concrete/ construction work. How easy would it be for him to find a job? I would have to work also but I would probably just do sales or something like that. How much do apartments usually run? Any advice you could give to us would be appreciated because we're kinda in the dark. :)
AnswerG'day Andrea,
There are restrictions for overseas students to register for college in Australia. Your boyfriend would get a job easily, but I am not sure if that is legal. My daughter use to work for a university and she said you should be ok to go to college. You have to decide what college or university you want to attend and then get accepted by them. Once you are accepted by the college you are legally able to study.
The link to the Australian Government will answer if you will be able to register for college or work.

The department of Immigration site may also be of assistance.

To buy an apartment in a decent area would cost between $250,000 and $300,000. To rent would vary on areas, but it would be between $200 and $300 a week. The link below will give you an idea of prices.

Sydney and Melbourne will be more expensive, and are very busy. Brisbane has slightly less expensive real estate and is not as busy, with a great climate.
I hope this is enough information. Feel free to email me direct if you require more - franksue@bigpond.net.au
