we recently got a 10 wk. old mini and whenever we go for a walk with him, he will start to try and herd us. not nipping,but ramming into our legs hoping we will go into his direction.is there anything we can do to stop him from doing this?

And you bought an Aussie why???  These are herding dogs:-)))  The truth is that they need early training if you are to prevent problems with displaced herding behaviors.  So, my advice is to sign your puppy up now (don't wait until he's older - if you need more information on socialization, there's a position paper on the AVSAB web page).  For now, give him something to herd that IS acceptable, such as an empty two liter bottle (minus the cap) or a "herding ball" or soccer ball (always supervise so that the pup cannot shred and ingest pieces of toys - puppy teeth are sharp as you know).  If you cannot get in to a class immediately, start socializing anyway, and use the lessons at www.clickerlessons.com to give your Aussie some mental stimulation, as well as the physical exercise he needs.  Even though you bought a "mini" you should realize that the Aussie genes mean that he has the mind of a working dog, and if you don't provide acceptable "jobs" (training, herding, obedience, agility, etc.) he will be likely to make up his own job descriptions that you may not like.
