Austria - Country Pass or others?

Question
Dear Claire,

Thanks for your answer last time.

I finally fixed my schedule as to spend few weeks in Munich, Salzburg, Vienna, Budapest and Prague in late-Oct to mid-Nov. My schedule is as below:

Munich => Salzburg (->Innsbruck, depends on time) => Vienna => Budapest => Prague

I found that buying 3 or 4 countries' pass in EURAIL is very expensive. Also, the EURAIL pass doesnt not cover city like Prague or cities in Czech. So, i wanna know where can i search the price & timetable of the train before fixing my schedule? Where should i book the tickets? In advance or buy in local? Thx!!

Best,
Leo

Answer
First of all, that looks like a fantastic schedule. I am jealous.

The eurail pass is very pricey. On one hand, I would suggest that you buy the tickets at the train station because they may be cheaper, but if you don't speak German, the sales people can sometimes be rude and may not understand you. I don't mean to scare you away, but buying online may be simpler. You can search ticket routes and pricing on this website.   http://www.raileurope.com/us/index.htm

If you can't find what you want there, I'm sure you will be able to  buy your tickets at the station. Also, you can buy train tickets that stop along the way and you can get off and walk around, but I'm not sure how to find that type of ticket online. If you want to do that, go to the train station and ask about it.

Good luck!
