Question
QUESTION: Hi Claire,

I am planning to go Vienna & Salzburg in Oct 2008. I would like to know
which transport should i take from Vienna to Salzburg, train or bus, how long
& how much for it? Many thanks!!

Best,
Leo from HK

ANSWER: I would suggest train because it will be more spacious. If you get car sick, the bus might make you uncomfortable because it will be taking winding roads up into the Alps. The train trip takes about three hours and will cost about $90 (US). If you want to look for train prices yourself, www.raileurope.com is the best resource. Good luck!

QUESTION: It seems that Salzburg is such a nice but small city. If i stay 5 days in Austria (i.e.
Vienna & Salzburg), how many days would you prefer to staying in Salzburg?
Thx again!!

Answer
I would suggest that you spend a day or a day and a half in Salzburg. I would also suggest looking into the Sound of Music tour. The tour is a van tour that takes people up into the Alps through the tiny towns up there. You'll see views you would miss otherwise. The tour also takes people to the filming locations for the movie, but the tour is great even if you aren't familiar with the movie. You can ask the driver to stop at any of the towns you'll see and you can go exploring as much as you would like.
Vienna has many more things to do, so I would suggest you spend more time there. Schonbrun palace is amazing and the city is gorgeous so just taking walks is fantastic. There are many museums, concert halls and great Austrian restaurants. If you would like more suggestions for Vienna, feel free just to ask. :-)
