Question
Grusse Gott!

I will be driving from Venice to Vienna next year. I presume there is a main route most people go for this drive. Can you please tell if there are any interesting regions, cities, sites along this drive.

Danke!

Answer
Dear "Travelbug",

Servus!

Thank you for this question. OK, there are some different ways between Venice and Vienna - the "standard" routing along highways (Autobahn), fast but more expensive because of toll fees, or "countryside" and "beside" the main routes, but you have to calculate more time.

OK, it depends also on travel time, because some routings via mountains are open only in the late Spring.

If you have time and you are not in hurry, you can take the routing via Treviso, Arnoldstein, Villach, Klagenfurt or you take a very scenic route via Ploeckenpass and further to Vienna. There is a "sidetrip" possible - if you are interested in "Lippizaner", the famous white horses in the Spanish Riding School in Vienna, the place where they are born and grown up - in PIBER near Graz.

On route you can visit several old castles still from the time of Habsburg's K&K monarchy.

Austria is still my home-country - even I was most time of my life as an "Airliner" working and living in other parts of "Global Village". Now - since retired - I`m an immigrant to Visayas in Central Philippines, working with the MEDIA - Newspapers and Radio: "NEWS" and "Background to the Headlines". So, if you have questions about Austria, I`ll try to answer.
