Austria/Travel in Austria

QuestionHi,
There are four of us planning a trip to Munich, Germany - Austria - and then Italy. We are familiar with Italy but not Germany or Austria.
This is our first trip to either country. We plan to stay in Munich about three days and then continue on to more of Germany and Austria. We will be driving and taking the trains. Not sure at this point when we will pick up our car. So far Innsbruck and Salzburg sound very nice. Vienna is too far north. I was reading about the Grossglockner Road and that sounds interesting. Is there something else you would recommend that perhaps is not as well known. We have been in the Alps in Switzerland - 10,000 feet - breathtaking sights - and would like to know if Grossglockner would be similar or a different experience. Would you recommend Salzburg or Innsbruck? What are the differences?
Thank you for your time and consideration.
AnswerDear Norma,
If I had the choice between Salzburg or Innsbruck,I would go with Salzburg.
You can visit Mozart's birth place and the Altstadt (historic town) is just beautiful.Salzburg has a real personality and you can take many different kind of tours (if you are interested). One of them is called "The sound of Music".
A must see is the Mirabell Castle, which was built in the year 1606.If you would like to see a beautiful church, visit the "Franziskaner Kirche".Right across from this church you will find the Museum of modern art.
It is a city of culture ,art and living history
The Grossglockner is very beautiful and driving along the windy road that leads you up is breathtaking. There is a "Gasthaus" up there, where you can have traditional Austrian food and you can go on wonderful short walks.
I hope this helps and please don't hesiate to contact me if you have further questions!
