Austria - living abroad

Question
Hello.  I am currently in transition from junior to senior in high school.  My question though, is regarding living abroad and not just visiting.  I plan to further my education in college then university; but ultimately I am considering living abroad.  Would you happen to know, or be able to compare the cost of living and the standard of living, between the US and Austria?  And if or what kind of jobs or fields are going to be wide and beneficial for a science (physics/engineering/computer science/programming/etc) person?  I know I am still young, so no worries, it's just something I am curious about.

Answer
I don't know much about specific job demand but the standard of living in Austria is very high. The city of Vienna controls rent, so costs dont get too bad. They are also big believers in social medicine so everyone gets the care they need. Other things are more expensive when you consider the exchange rate between the dollar and the euro. Not good. But still, if it weren't for family, I would go live in Austria in a second. Why don't you try to set up a study abroad semester during college? (Student loans can be put toward study abroad, if money is a concern.) You can try out the county and then be able to decide better if you want to move there. You will also meet possible contact people to help you with your questions. Many programs offer homestays, so you could experience the actual lifestyle of a Viennese person and ask them all the down and dirty questions you didnt want to ask the study abroad people. Please let me know if you have more questions. PS. Sorry my response took so long!
