Question
i have an autistic girl in my class who is 4 and she has been having screaming outbursts pretty much all day long.  I have tried everything to stop her from doing this. There are 24 kids in my classroom do you think that she is overstimulated?

Answer
I would recommend evaluating her sensory hyper vs hyporeactivity, which may help to isolate how she is being over or understimulated in various sensory areas.  You can locate a checklist at:http://www.sensory-processing-disorder.com/

Many times, sensory techniques can help to reduce tantrums and outbursts.  http://www.spdconnection.com/printablepages/spdchecklist.htm

I hope this is helpful.  If you include a school psychologist and occupational therapist, they can help you in finding positive behavior supports, sensory interventions, and social skills training to help her be more successful.
