Question
Hello, My daughter is 6 years old and very bright and happy , has Aspergers, and in many ways just like typical kids. This is her first year in school, and she although she reads very well, and can answer any specific question you ask her about what she read, (or did that day or any day for that matter)she has difficulty explaining past events/events from stories or answering any general question. This caused her comprehension to be "vague" on a recent reading test. she got all multiple choice, and specific questions correct, but could not answer all the general question. I would like to research this and help her, but I have no idea what it is called. Any suggestions?

Answer
My daughter struggles in this area, as do many children with AS.  What I would suggest is providing direct strategies incorporating summarization.  I nice overview can be found at:

http://www.specialconnections.ku.edu/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/specconn/main.php?cat=instr...

We also provide a free download with summarization activities and instructions on our website at:

www.anniebooks.com (click on parent tips)

I hope this is helpful for you and your daughter.
