Question
My son is 6 and has autism. He goes to a normal school but does have some problems, especially socializing and adjusting to change.He hasn't been diagnosed as autistic as yet, i have been asking the school to refer him so he can be statemented as having autism so he can receive additional help in the classroom but have ben waiting nearly 2yrs. Is there any other route can go down to speed the process up? Tracy

Answer
Hi Tracy;

I assume you live in the UK? You can have a private psychologist assess him. If you do live in the UK then make sure which type of psychologist they will recognize such as a clinical psychologist versus an educational psychologist. Working in Ireland I generally find they prefer an educational psych to a clinical psych.

James
