Question
I have a sone 6yrs old and had a stroke inuterine and has been diagnosed as a low functioning autistic child with mental retardation. My question is we are interested on trying the GFCF diet- I have heard some medical personnel say that amazing results can happen with the diet and others say not to get my hopes up. I wanted to know how you feel about the diet. My son had stool & urine sample and levels came back showing the "leaky gut".

Answer
Hi Jenny;

The GFCF diet has different results for different children and is definitely worth a try. Keep a log on his behavior and sleep patterns two weeks prior to instituting it and then data on the behavior and sleep patterns during that time. First try gluten free and then casein free as he may have problems with one and not the other. Check with his pediatrician first for any pre-existing medical circumstance that may interact with the diet plan.

James
