Autism - Problem in speaking

Expert: Michelle Fattig - 1/23/2009

Question
Dear Sir/Madam,
My son is 5 years old. He is having problem in speaking the following words – R, K. He says L to R and T to K. you are requested to guide.

Answer
It is actually age appropriate for these sounds to be missing or unintelligible until the age of 8.  If you are concerned and would like him to receive language services, you can contact your local school district for a free multi-disciplinary evaluation and speech language services (if you live in the U.S.).  Otherwise, you can ask your physician to recommend a private speech pathologist to provide a screening evaluation.  The following might be a helpful website with recommendations:

I hope this is helpful and wish you both the best.
