My son is 14 y/o and was diagnosed w/AS at age 5. He went thru a lot of different likes/obsessions and then found music/piano at age 8 and has done well/loves music. He has taken piano lessons 1x a week since age 8 and its 1st violin in 8th grade orchestra. My son is on IEP and in all advanced classes- loves Latin, but hates and struggles in Algebra.  I think you have to find your child's strengths and go with that.  Your son might do better in another elective based on an area of study that he likes.
