Question My son is currently old. He is a very shy child, who perfers routine, he has a speech problem and slight hearing problems.Itook him out of his previous school though not having any support with his disruptive behaviour. His new shool at first was supportive and willing to work with me- untill his teacher who had built up trust and confidence with left and in place was numerous different teachers that had no time but to send him in the office when the going got to tough for them.Iwas constantly told to come and collect him at 9.30,10etc after just leaving him at 9. WE ALL Agreed that maybe it would benefit him to attend a behavioural key centre and although their was problems it was contained.I was told that new term we start, we are now in october and my son has protrayed good behaviour and nothing wasnt done, i was told they wwant to stagger his time so the problems do not occur again- he is currently in school half day.Today i went to collect him and he was in the office for swearing at another child, which i had asked not to put my child with this other child and he refused to go into class- when asked why they did not contact me like previous times -was told because i was in college now his been put on a 3 day fixed exclution without any meeting. im not happy with this ,im an aldult and im confused so how is my child feeling-currently he has an oppointment with apediatrition to see if their is something going on with him like adhd please help im at my wits end as i was told my the headmisstress that if you aks anybody in his class whos the naughty child every child can tell me its my son
Answer It sounds to me that your son may need special education services in the area of behavior. Given his speech challenges, he should already have an IEP and be receiving speech therapy. If he is not on an IEP, he needs to be assessed so he can be put on one. You need to write the school requesting that he be assessed for special education. If he has an IEP, then you need to request an IEP Team Meeting to address his behavioral needs. He should have a Functional Behavior Analysis and a Behavior Plan. Being kept out of class or at home is not a solution because he will not be getting an education.
I wish you and your son the best,
