Autism/Speech therapy for jargon

Question
Hello..
I am a master in speech language pathology. i have been handling cases mainly with ASD. Many of my cases present with Jargon utterances. I would be pleased if u could help me with some therapy techniques to shape the jargon into meaningful speech.

Answer
Hi Tejashvini

There is a huge difference between jargon and meaningful speech in an ASD person. A person with ASD who has vocalizations may not have meaningful speech. So you need to work on receptive language first and communication through alternative means. Then, to shape the vocalizations, use a motor planning approach like the Kaufman Praxis Treatment Program.

Hope this helps
