Question
What is the best way to find out who provides Autism Spectrum Services in our area?  I am looking for services in the Kansas City Metro area (MO and KS).

Thank you.

Answer
If you are looking for in-home treatment services, The Kansas City Autism Treatment Center might interest you. They provide direct, ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) therapy and I believe they also offer some parent training as well. (http://kcatc.net/s/1255/index.aspx).

The Autism Alliance of Greater Kansas offers support for families, activities, information and a network of resources. This might be the best starting place for you. (http://autismalliancekc.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=24&Item...).

Here is a website that gives an array of resources in Kansas, mainly government or public agencies. You'll need to scroll down the page then read through each offering (http://www.autism-pdd.net/LINKS/kansas.html#Kansas%20Web).

This next link is an interesting article about recreation for those with sensory sensitivities (http://www.kckidsfun.com/tag/autism/).

You can contact the Kansas branch of the Autism Society of America at this address:

Autism Society the Heartland is another support group that may interest you (http://www.asaheartland.org/contact-us).

Your local school board is an excellent place to start. Try contacting Colleen Riley or Kerry Haag at 1-800-203-9462. (http://www.ksde.org/Default.aspx?tabid=3199).

I hope this provides some of the information you are seeking.

Best wishes,
