Autism/Credentialed Teacher

Question
My son is autistic and is currently in a special education classroom in CA. The teacher is leaving for another school and the county is replacing her with credentialed teacher but with no certified special education training. Is the county required to provide the classroom with a special education teacher?

Answer
When it is a special education class, the teacher must have a special education teaching credential. Some districts try to get around this by having a teacher in the class under the direct supervision of a special ed teacher, but this does not meet the requirements of the law (unless the credentialed teacher is also in the class).
