Autism/3year old daughter

Question
My 3 year old daughter Kaitlyn has had some speach delays we recieved theropy through the state at age 2 and once she turned 3 she gets speech through the school system. The therapist says she is on track now she was a whole year behind with speech.She is talking so much better now and in sentences now so i am feeling good about this but she does a lot of hand flapping mostly when she is waiting for me to give her something or excited about something the pediatrician says not to worry because socially she is OK she loves people she will hug a stranger if you let her she plays fine with other kids she is very smart eye contact is ok and she plays pretend and dress up all the time but the hand flapping and speech delays worry me and my dad is convinced she has autism because he say Jenny Mccarthys special on 20/20 I was worried and let it go when the doctor said to but now I am worried again any advice for me please

I complement you on getting your daughter the help she needs starting at a young age. Unless your dad is a medical doctor, psychiatrist, or related expert, I suggest that you believe your daughter's doctor diagnosis. If you want, you can ask your daughter's school to assess her, but their assessments are not as accurate as that of a well trained medical doctor.

I have been an education advocate representing students and parents for six years. I have represented clients with learning disabilities, autism, Downs Syndrome, cognitively challenged, emotional problems, learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD, and physical disabilities. I also studied applied statistics in the field of psychology at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
