Question
My son will be 9 years old this month. As of late he has had an obsession with playing in the bathroom. He flushes items down the toilet. He dumps shampoo, hairspray, etc. down the sink and in the toilet. And now he likes to spray shaving cream all over the floor. How do we break him of this bad habit. My wife and I are at our wits end with this behavior. Help!!!

I'm affraid I can't help you with this.
To be honest, I also have no idea how to stop this behaviour. I believe he may like the sound the flushing of the toilet makes and like the texture of shaving cream and think that shampoo running from the bottle into the toilet just looks nice. Many autistic people are obsessed with water, btw.
You could maybe offer him empty shampoo containers to play with and similiar things (so he will not waste your shampoo) and a bucket full of water. Get him items with a similar texture he can safely play with, but make it clear that he may play with them outside (or whatever place would be okay) and NOT in the bathroom.

As I'm not doing well right now and am not in the shape of answering questions well - I recieved a few low ratings lately - I'll take a break from AllExperts for the next few weeks/until I'm doing better
I am an adult diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome/High Functioning Autism and ADD.
In the past years I have also read a lot about autism and its comorbid conditions and related subjects (as I am experiencing symptoms of most of these or know others who do) , so I have accumulated a lot of layman knowledge in this area
