Autism/Food Alergies/Sensitivities in Children with Autism

Question
Hi,

I am scheduled to go to a nurse/clinic provider next month to have my autistic son tested for food alergies.  I informed my son's Pediatrician to get his input on this and he said that there is no link between food alergies/sensitivites in children with ASD.  I was very argumentative about this since I have read and networked a lot on this very subject and believe there is a link, plus my son's ABA Therapist highly recommended it.

What is your opinion on this?

Thanks,

Julie Duran

Answer
Hi Julie;

Although I have read very little in the research on the subject of allergies, it is a well known fact that children with autism are often, but not always, sensitive to casein and/gluten. It is also well known that children with autism often have gastro-intestinal problems that I would venture to say stem from anxiety and food sensitivities, Good luck.

Kind Regards,
James
