Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair/Air conditioner/heater repair cost estimate

Question
The air conditioner/heater unit in my 2000 Honda Civic needs replacing.  I've received a repair estimate of $3,000.  This seems quite high to me.  My car only has 74,000 miles on it and it runs very well.  I want to determine if this estimate is fair.  I have nothing with which to compare it.  Thank you.

Answer
Hi Martha

If you are replacing every single part the estimate may be Ok maybe.  But if you had ac before you need to check and replace only what is bad.  I would say this is like replacing your house  because the front door is broken.  You need to see what is wrong and repair.  Try and get me some information or at least tell me what the vehicle is doing.  If you can get me some pressure readings that would be great.  Good luck and let me know.
