Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair - AC on 93 Chevy Van

Question
how can I tell what refrigerant is used on my van? I don't know what to charge it with, is there an any quick way to tell?

Answer
Hi John

More than likely your system is R12 which you can not buy anymore.
There are some blends in the market like FR-12 or freeze 12 but it is best to retrofit to R-134.  You can be sure by looking at the fittings.  If it is R-12 the large diameter hose will have a bigger fitting than the high side hose.  On R-134  your thicker hose has the smaller size fitting in comparison to the high side hose.
