QUESTION: it has the 3 dials and a button for ac and a button for recirc. so not it isnt automatic

Answer
Your actuator motor may be bad.  First disconnect the battery and reconnect to see if they reset themselves.  If this does not work then you need to go to the motor itself.  The actuator is located under the dash on the drivers side at the evaporator case.  You can check if you have power and ground at the motor.  Move control to different settings and you will see the power move to another cable on the motor.  If this is happening you actuator motor is the problem if not, then your control could be the problem.
