Just add refrigerant do not bypass anything it will cost you more.

QUESTION: if the clutch on the compressor does not engage, it wont suck the refrigerant in.  i already tried connecting a new can to the system and that didn't do anything.

Sorry misunderstood the question.  You can go to the accumulator and disconnect the cycling switch.  Jump the switch at the connector.  If you put in refrigerant as soon as the pressures hit 50PSi the compressor will kick in.  Let me know if by jumping it the system works.
