Question
ok I have a 1992 chevy astro van i need to know what freon is in it r-134a or r-12

Answer
Hi Bryan,

Most vehicles have a separate sticker with the A/C information on it -- generally yellow. Although it can be located on the fan shroud or strut tower, most times (particularly in GM) it's on the accumulator.

Typically, anything prior to 1994 came with R-12, unless it's been retrofitted, which should have a brightly colored sticker in plain sight (fan shroud, strut tower) proclaiming the change. If there's no sticker, and you're still unsure -- look at the service ports. The R-12 service ports are smaller, and have threads on the outside (holds the cap on), while the larger R-134a ports have threads on the inside of the port itself.

Good Luck!
