Auto Airbag System Repair/Dodge Ram Airbag

Question
Hi there,
2006 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9L Diesel 4x4
I have an intermittent airbag light. Code given was B1B04-DRIVER AIRBAG SQUIB 2 CIRCUIT LOW. Everything I read indicated clock spring. Replaced clock spring and light continues, giving same code. 1 airbag tech states still has to be clock spring. Dodge Dealer states need new harness from cluster to ACM at a cost of $3100. There seems to be no rhyme or reason when the light comes on, except that it comes on for about 5 seconds then goes off. May happen twice in an hour and then not again for 2 days. The only thing that seems to affect it is temp. I have never seen it come on when temp is below about 35deg. I am at whits end, I don't believe I have had 2 bad clock springs. Any advice on other items I should check. I don't want to throw money chasing problems.
Thanks in advance.
Greg

Answer
Hi Greg:

Sorry about your problem.  You have replaced the most popular part that fails.  At this point, you will need to connect with a tech that has airbag and component simulators.  These are test equipment, usually found only at a dealer.  A tech familiar with these items will plug them in at connection points (at the control unit, at the beginning of the clockspring, at the end of the clockspring, etc) to determine where the break in the circuit is.  Your problem could be anything from a bad control unit, to the wire harness, to a bad connector in a wire harness, to a faulty clockspring, to a bad airbag itself.  That's why you have to isolate the problem in the chain.  It could be anywhere in the circuit and an intermittent problem is much harder to find than a continuous fault.  You may want to wait until the light stays on all the time.  Then it will be easily traced.

I hope this helped you

Good luck
Doug
