Question
Hi, I have a 1998 VW Passat and the rearview mirror just became detached from the 'stalk'.  The stalk is still attached to the windshield but it does not seem to be the standard type that I can just take off and replace.  It is solid metal stuck on a small black circle and there doesn't seem to be any easy way to get it off.  How could I remove it to install a replacement mirror?

Hi Liam,



         You must turn the whole base of the mirror housing (STALK) 1/4 turn counter clockwise to remove. Do Not Pull just Twist and it should come right off. If is too hard to remove have a  glass shop remove it when you get the new mirror, Its not worth cracking your Windshield for what could be as little as a 10-20.00 Tip!  Hay the glass guy may be able to repair the mirror you have now. You never know. Could be!!
