Question
QUESTION: My passenger window will go down but not up. I replaced the motor with the window in the up position. I was able to roll it down and it still wont go up. I plugged the old motor in and it runs when I push the button down and nothing when I push the button up. I tried replacing the relay and still nothing. I am at a dead end. Please help me. I even checked the fuse and it is good.

ANSWER: Hi Dan,

You probably have a bad switch.  Power is coming out of the switch on the "down" wire, but not on the "up" wire.

Send me back a follow up with the make, model, and year of your vehicle and I will give you more information.

QUESTION: Thank you for your quik reply. My truck is a 1999 ford f250. It was suggested today that it might be the main switch on the drivers side since it does the same thing on the drivers side for the passenger window. the drivers window goes up and down. For now I put the old motor back in and with the window in the up position I unplugged the motor so that it cannot be rolled down untill I get this figured out.

Dan.

Answer
Hi Dan,

Whoever suggested that your driver's switch was the culprit must have some experience with this problem.  That is the cause I find most often.  However, it always pays to verify the problem with a test light or electrical meter before you purchase a new switch.  Most vendors will not allow you to return a switch for fear that you have damaged it electrically.

If your F250 is not the "Super Crew" version you can buy a replacement switch in the aftermarket.  Tell your local parts supplier you need a 901-315 switch from Dorman.  I am guessing you will pay about half the $100 that your local Ford dealer will charge you.

Good luck with your project.  Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.
