Question
QUESTION: My widow never really went down. I was driving and it just sarted going on the passenger side. My Boyfriend something pop. so my question is is this the motor and do i replace the whole thing

ANSWER: Hello Leslie,

From the description you have given me, it is very likely that you have a "cable style" window mechanism.  The sound your boyfriend heard was the sound of the top cable (pulls the window up) breaking out of its mounting point.  In most cases this means you will have to replace the whole mechanism including the motor.  If you wish, you can tell me the make, model, and year of your vehicle and I will give you more information about your repair.

Good Luck, Ben ...... the power window guy.

QUESTION: Thank you I have a 2000 Ford Crown Victoria the Police package

Answer
Hello Again Leslie,

The window regulator for your Crown Victoria is available without the motor.  You will be able to re-use your existing motor.  Most auto parts stores can get you a replacement cable regulator for about $75.00 dollars.

Installing the new regulator is not a simple task for someone without the proper tools and experience.  The glass is riveted to the regulator and the regulator is riveted to the inside of the door.

Check with your regular mechanic first.  If he doesn't like to make this type of repair, then you can check with various glass shops in your area to see if they can do it for you.  Expect to pay between $60 and $90 for the labor.

Hope this helps.  Ben .... the power window guy.
