Question
The defroster has stopped working. When I asked the repair
shop, he said the window needed to be replaced ($$!!). There
is some power to the strips but only enough to defrost right
at the wire.

Answer
Hi Shelly,

There is a kit available to manually metallic paint the lines on the glass. It makes contact with the areas that have been  broken off or scratched.

This kit will only work if you have enough voltage to heat the whole Grid.

Have the Voltage tested to make sure it is not a bad fuse or wiring.

There is also a Kit to put rear defrost on a window that did not originally come with defrost like some of the 60's and 70's cars.

This kit is a complete metal grid you roll onto your window. It has self stick backing and is fairly easy to install.

Without seeing the window in question, these are your best choices.

                                      Hope This Helps! Derek =D
