Auto Glass/2003 Honda Accord Power Window

Question
The passenger window used to go down and not up.  The dealer replaced the motor and then said that a "switch" (or something, I forget) was sticking and causing something to overheat so it would stop working.  Now I think they want to replace the regulator.  My question is two parts...I am pretty handy (I work on my 98 Audi A8 alot) is this something I should be able to handle?  If there is a new motor and neither of the buttons (driver side or passenger door) work, is it something else?  I want to believe that they are being honest but I don't know why they would replace the motor first and not check the electricals.  I sure appreciate your help!

Answer
Hi Ben,

I haven't seen any problems on this vintage of Accord so I don't have any specific suggestions as to what might be a typical failure.  However, from what you have told me, it sounds to me like your problem is electrical.  I doubt that you could handle the troubleshooting necessary to determine if the problem is in the master switch, the single switch, the "body control module", or just a broken wire.

I think your Honda dealer is incompetent or dishonest.  Find a small to medium sized mechanic in your area that specializes in Honda repair. Call or drop by his shop to discuss your problem and get a feel for whether or not he is the kind of person you want to do business with.

I hope this information helps.  If there is any thing else I can do, don't hesitate to send a follow up question.
