Auto Glass/1999 Honda Accord Coupe regulator adjustment

Question
Hi Ben,

The regulator mechanism on our 99 accord coupe drivers side power window went. I replaced it and the motor works fine. Problem is that the window goes up about 4/5ths of the way, but the back comes out of the track and hits the top of the window first, thereby stopping the front from closing all the way. I'm guessing that I need to adjust where/how the regulator is seated with the bolts that hold it in place. Also--do you know if the motor/regulator unit is held on by 2 or 4 bolts? Mine only had 2, but it looks like someone might have monkeyed with it before and taken off 2 of the bolts.
Thanks,

Dan

Answer
Hello Dan,

The regulator for your Accord coupe should have SIX  10MM bolts that secure it to the inside of the door.  Two of the bolts secure the horizontal channel that is located at about the middle of the door near the rear of the door.  The other four bolts attach to the four threaded holes in the mounting plate on the regulator.  The four bolts should form a roughly rectangular pattern near the front of the door.

Once all six bolts are properly installed make sure the glass is installed correctly inside the rubber "run channel" at the front and back of the door.  First remove the glass from the regulator, lower the regulator all the way to the bottom, then manually slide the glass up and down to be sure it tracks properly.  If the glass does not move easily, use silicone spray to lubricate the rubber run channel. (NO OTHER LUBRICATION IS ACCEPTABLE)

After you confirm that the glass is moving smoothly in the run channel you can mount the glass back on the regulator. After re-installing the glass I would expect that the regulator should move the window move up and down smoothly and the glass should stay in the run channel all the way up and down.  If it doesn't, send me a follow up question and I will give you some additional things to investigate.
