Auto Insurance Claims/Stolen Auto

Question
My daughter loaned her car to a friend that drove it out of state (CA. to Las Vegas) where it was stolen from a hotel parking lot.  Does the friend have any legal responsibility to replace the car?
Would the friends auto insurance be responsible for restitution since my daughter only carried PL & PD?

Answer
Hi Rita,
Your daughters friend does not have a 'legal' responsibility to replace the car, but if she carries insurance with comprehensive (theft) coverage, she could have her insurance company cover your daughters car as a temporary substitute automobile.
I hope this is of help.
